Who we are
We are a Catholic Community of the Byzantine Rite, a parish of the Eparchy of Passiac. Our people are from Eastern Europe who in the early 1900's settled in a new land. Churches were established all over the United States. Families from North Jersey and Pennsylvania eventually moved to the Jersey shore. In 1971, thirty families celebrated the first Divine Liturgy at a local university. a church parish center was constructed and dedicated in 1989.
We are a parish rich in our faith and heritage. We proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and we welcome all to worhip with us on Sunday mornings at 9am.
We are Catholics
The Catholic Church of the Byzantine Rite is one of twenty-three Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with the Pope of Rome. These churches embody the traditions, practices and spirituality that have been around for at least a millenium. "Byzantine" refers to the original Christian tradition of a region of Constantinople. Sometimes "Catholic" is used only to refer to the Roman Catholic Church. Yet there are other Churches sui iuris ("of ones own right") that are also Catholic. Any catholic can fulfill his or her Sunday obligation by attending the Divine Liturgy at a Byzantine Catholic Church.
